More Happy Tales!
Fritz with his new best friends,
Raccoon and Koala.
Lilah had 4 surgeries at the University to save her life
after severe facial trauma due to abuse. She was unable
to breathe, drink, or eat  without a struggle. She stole the
hearts of many U of I Animal Clinic staffers. Now she has a
wonderful home with (Who else?) her U of I tech! Cool! A
huge Thank You to Chris and Hellie of Paul Warner
Rescue and all of the supporters who made Lilah's
surgeries possible!.
Van Halen was chosen to be his mom's
companion and service dog. Although
he is very adept in his new role, Van
must not try to be a lifeguard until he's
been fitted for his own life vest. He likes
the water but sinks like a rock! Better
work on that dog paddle, Van!
Check back soon to see still more Happy Tales.

Hi Hellie,
The puppies are great – and so different from each other.
Joey (Tramp) is calm and reserved, and perhaps a bit
lazy. Georgie is fast and quite the hunter. He has already
caught 2 mice while out for walks in the woods. Thanks to
all the folks at Paul Warner Rescue!

Hellie,

I only have my cell phone to take pics this
morning. Not the best quality, but you will see
our girl is very happy & healthy. We love her
so & think Rafe is so happy to have a new pal.
She is quite amazed by the cats & spends a
good deal of time sitting at the patio door
staring at them. Too funny! She also loves the
great big yard and all the country has to offer.
Lots of new sites & smells. It take forever for
her to go potty because she is so distracted.
It's wonderful to watch her!!

Tell Donna we said thanks for being such a
great foster mom!! We can tell she has been in
a great home with lots of love. We appreciate
both of you giving her to us to love!! We will
keep you posted from time to time with new
pics and happy reports.

Most sincerely,
Charles, Teresa, Rafe & Ziva
EDGAR COUNTY, Ill (WTHI) - There's a
new resident in the Wabash Valley, at
least for awhile. But this one comes with a
furry coat, four paws and a tail, as well as
a painful injury.

The airplane touched down at the Edgar
County, Ill Airport with a special
passenger in back. She didn't need a
seatbelt, but did require a crate. Her
name is Heidi and she's a German
Shepherd.

Good job everyone.

"She was a wonderful dog, stuck in a
shelter up north with a fractured hip and
no one to fix it," said Paul Warner Animal
Rescue President, Hellie Smith.

No one to help until now. Honey Creek
Animal Hospital Veterinarian Mike Staub
agreed to help, discounting a surgery that
should fix the pelvic injury. Amateur pilot
Mark Kozak agreed to fly Heidi down from
the Chicago area.

"This really gives me a reason to fly to
different airports, different areas and do
something good," said Kozak.

Kozak is part of the " Pilot N Paws ", a
national charitable network. It saves Heidi
a long and stressful car trip. She's the first
prospective pet to land at the Edgar
County Airport, just north of Paris Illinois.

"It's amazing," said Straub. "This is
something that's new to me in the last
couple months that they have this group
of pilots that will fly animals. It is
wonderful."

Staub said Heidi should be able to use
her leg about a month after surgery and
in another month it will be tough to know
she ever had a serious injury. Soon after,
Smith hopes Heidi makes someone a
perfect and loving pet.

"It's the most satisfying thing there is,"
said Smith.

Smith is not sure whether Heidi will find a
permanent home somewhere in the
Wabash Valley or be sent back to the
Chicago area.
